Development of an efficient oxygen elimination technology for
reducing oxygen content in landfill gas for fuel quality

The aim of NOO2 project is to develop a technology that is able to reduce high oxygen content of gases from renewable resources (especially from municipal landfills) to be processed further to fuel (pipeline grade or Compressed Natural Gas, CNG) quality.



All previously developed “state of the art”  biogas purification technologies show a common “weak point” – the reduction of the oxygen content and hydrogen sulphides by membrane technology is a complex process, associated with environmental pollution and therefore in a long run is costly.

The NOO2 project proposes an innovative biological platform to remove O2 and sulfur from landfill gas. The technology will allow to perform biogas upgrading in a more efficient and environmentally friendly and thus more cost-effective way, than ever before. The “microbiological” process, to be applied, was recently developed by University of Cadiz and successfully demonstrated.
